About Me
In case you haven't been able to tell from the content of this website, I am crazy about birds. It all started many years ago when my grandmother first started showing me birds around Sea Cliff, NY, where I lived for the first ten years of my life, and has been going down hill ever since. Since then I have lived in various spots near New York City, coastal Connecticut, western Massachusetts, and finally Colorado, where I have spent the most time as a serious birder.
My main focus as a birder has shifted some over the years. At first I just wanted to see as many birds as I could. Then I started photographing them. And then I started becoming more interested in getting to know an area and really become familiar with the local avifauna. www.coloradocountybirding.com was the eventual result of this stage of my birding career.
That pretty much all changed after my first trip to the tropics, to Costa Rica in 2003. Since then I have been in love with the Neotropics, and after my first trip to South America, Ecuador in 2006, the Bird Continent. Also as a result of my time south of the border I have mostly stopped trying to photograph birds, at least hardcore, and have moved into recording.
I have recently begun to work for Tropical Birding, guiding in Ecuador and in other locations around the neotropics. This should meld well with my goal of exploring South America in depth and really getting to know the birds of the most amazing continent.
This website is a culmination of my life with birds so far. It has some of all my interests - photography, recording, trip reports to South America and around the world, and various projects that have been on my mind in recent years. I hope you find this site useful, and please feel free to send any feedback - positive or negative - to me.
